From learning to read — to reading to learn. Explorers measure, map, multiply and start asking “prove it.”
Ages 8–11 · Full school days, 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM · 180-day school year
Four core subjects in real depth, with arts, health and character woven through the week — the same six strands on every band page, at this band's level.
Chapter books, then real research. Explorers summarize, compare and argue from a text; writing grows from paragraphs to organized reports and stories with dialogue, evidence and a point of view.
The arithmetic years, mastered deeply: multiplication and long division, fractions as real numbers, decimals, area and volume, and word problems that take more than one step — and more than one try.
Earth, life and physical science in rotation: ecosystems and food webs, rocks and weather systems, matter and energy. Experiments are designed, not just watched — predictions first, results recorded.
The United States, mapped and storied: regions and states, Native nations, exploration, colonies and the founding — and the wider world beyond it, continent by continent. Timelines and primary sources, at a child's scale.
Design challenges, simple machines and first coding thinking — plan, build, test, improve. Failure is data here; the second version is the assignment.
Teamwork with real roles, handling disagreement with words, and taking responsibility for a job done well — the habits that make Grades 6–8 possible.
Money has sources, homes and plans. Explorers learn where money comes from (work and earning), where it lives (saving, with a goal and a timeline), and how a plan is made (a budget for real, small numbers — an allowance, a class project, a first earned-money venture). Comparing prices and thinking in units starts here, and the finance pillar's standalone units begin in this band.
A real school day — seven full hours, 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This is one sample day; the rhythm repeats all year.
Outcomes we teach toward — and check, student by student, before anyone moves on.
✅ Reads chapter books and nonfiction with real comprehension
✅ Masters multiplication, division and fractions
✅ Writes organized multi-paragraph pieces with evidence
✅ Designs simple experiments and records results honestly
✅ Maps and explains the United States, region by region
Math and reading daily; writing workshop four days a week; science three days; social studies and STEM alternate — with a Friday expedition: a deeper dive into the week's big question.
Omni accounts for its day the way America's leading online schools do: programmed minutes, banded by age. Inside the 420-minute school day (7:00 AM – 2:00 PM), instruction runs at this band's level:
| Subject block | Minutes a day | Minutes a year (180 days) |
|---|---|---|
| English Language Arts | 75 min | 13,500 min |
| Mathematics | 65 min | 11,700 min |
| Science | 35 min | 6,300 min |
| Social Studies | 35 min | 6,300 min |
| Arts / PE / SEL & Finance rotation | 30 min | 5,400 min |
Grade 3 keeps the younger rhythm: 240 instructional minutes inside the 420-minute day.
| Subject block | Minutes a day | Minutes a year (180 days) |
|---|---|---|
| English Language Arts | 90 min | 16,200 min |
| Mathematics | 75 min | 13,500 min |
| Science | 45 min | 8,100 min |
| Social Studies | 45 min | 8,100 min |
| Arts | 15 min | 2,700 min |
| PE / Health | 15 min | 2,700 min |
| SEL & Finance | 15 min | 2,700 min |
From Grade 4 the instructional day steps up to 300 minutes — the level America's leading online schools run — with 120 programmed minutes around it.
The assessment rhythm is the school's skeleton — the same cadence at every grade, at this band's weight:
One session is one day's lesson in a subject, so a daily subject holds about 180 sessions a year. Sessions group into blocks of 5 and units of about 18 — ten units per subject, per year, paced across 36 weeks in two semesters. The main instruction video in each session runs 5–10 minutes, the band America's leading schools teach in; shorter segments support it inside the session. Nothing here is improvised: the year's minutes, units and checks are counted before the first lesson is written.
