What Foundations learn

Four core subjects in real depth, with arts, health and character woven through the week — the same six strands on every band page, at this band's level.

📚

English Language Arts

Sounds before everything: phonics, read-alouds and first stories. Children decode, then read for joy — and start writing their own sentences, from labels and lists to a first real story by Grade 2.

🔢

Mathematics

Numbers you can touch. Counting, place value and number bonds to 1,000; addition and subtraction with objects, pictures and number lines; shapes, measuring and telling time — always concrete before abstract.

🔬

Science

Science as wonder, taught properly: living things and their homes, weather through the seasons, pushes and pulls. Every unit starts with a question a child actually asks.

🌎

Social Studies

Me, my family, my neighborhood, my country. Maps of real places in a child's life, helpers in the community, and the first stories from the past — their own home's and America's — told simply and honestly.

🎨

Arts, Music & Movement

Drawing, singing, building and moving every single day — woven into the week, not saved for Friday. Fine-motor practice hides inside the fun.

💛

Character & SEL

Feelings have names, friends are made on purpose, and the three most important sentences in school are learned early: “I couldn't,” “I forgot,” and “help me, please” — always safe to say here.

THE OMNI SIGNATURE · FINANCIAL LITERACY

First money touches

Counting and coins come first — money a small hand can hold, count and keep. Needs vs wants, learned in the classroom store and in play; saving as a habit from the very first jar: save, spend, share. These first touches are woven through the band's days and grow, year by year, into the school's finance pillar.

A school day in Foundations

A real school day — seven full hours, 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This is one sample day; the rhythm repeats all year.

7:00
Morning Meeting — Songs, calendar, the day's big question — every child greeted by name.
7:30
Reading & Phonics — Sounds, blending and a story read together.
8:30
Brain Break & Movement — Jump, stretch, dance — bodies reset, brains refocus.
8:45
Mathematics — Number work with objects, games and talk.
9:45
Snack & Free Play — Fuel and unstructured time.
10:05
Writing Workshop — From drawings with labels to real sentences and stories.
11:00
Science / Social Studies — The day's wonder block — observe, ask, try.
12:00
Lunch — A real lunch hour with family.
12:45
Arts & Music — Create something every day.
13:30
Story Time & Closing Circle — A chapter together, today's wins, tomorrow's teaser.

The week at a glance

Reading and math every day; science and social studies alternate as the wonder block; art, music and movement woven through every day — never as an afterthought.

The day program — in minutes

Omni accounts for its day the way America's leading online schools do: programmed minutes, banded by age. Inside the 420-minute school day (7:00 AM – 2:00 PM), instruction runs at this band's level:

The K–2 day program — 240 instructional minutes a day

Subject blockMinutes a dayMinutes a year (180 days)
English Language Arts70 min12,600 min
Mathematics55 min9,900 min

Social Studies30 min5,400 min
Arts20 min3,600 min

The other 180 minutes of the 420-minute day are programmed, not empty: opening circle, lunch, recess, movement breaks, transitions and the closing circle.

How learning is checked

The assessment rhythm is the school's skeleton — the same cadence at every grade, at this band's weight:

✓ A knowledge check inside every session — learning is verified the day it happens✓ A block check at the close of every 5-session block✓ A unit test at the close of every unit (a unit is about 18 sessions)✓ A portfolio close for every unit — young students show what they made✓ An oral reading check with the teacher, once per unit, in language arts✓ Benchmark assessments three times a year — fall, winter, spring — in math and reading✓ The 80% rule: no student moves on below 80% mastery. The material is re-taught, not waved through

The grain of the year

One session is one day's lesson in a subject, so a daily subject holds about 180 sessions a year. Sessions group into blocks of 5 and units of about 18 — ten units per subject, per year, paced across 36 weeks in two semesters. The main instruction video in each session runs 5–10 minutes, the band America's leading schools teach in; shorter segments support it inside the session. Nothing here is improvised: the year's minutes, units and checks are counted before the first lesson is written.
